General Assistance

General Assistance

General Assistance (GA) is a basic needs loan program. It is designed to meet the needs of the County’s indigent resident’s who are not eligible to other aid programs. GA must be paid back.

The design of Project Roomkey in San Joaquin County is to relieve overcrowding in homeless shelters by relocating individuals from the shelters that are asymptomatic for COVID-19 and have a high risk condition that makes them more vulnerable to the effects of COVID-19 than the general population. The high risk factors include individuals over the age of 65 and/or that have a qualifying health condition, such as, lung disease, heart disease, cancer, diabetes, HIV, or other similar condition. Individuals will be screened by medical staff for qualifying factors and are triaged for placement based on their vulnerability to the effects of COVID-19.

If you are currently in a shelter, within San Joaquin County, and are over the age of 65 and/or have a diagnosed qualifying health condition, please ask a shelter staff member for a referral to Project Roomkey.

Shelter staff, please email referrals for potential candidates to roomkey@sjgov.org.
