CalFresh is Expanding to include SSI/SSP Recipients

Have you or your family been ineligible to CalFresh because at least 1 person receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI/SSP) from Social Security? Effective June 1, 2019, the law will change and allow those that receive SSI/SSP to be eligible to CalFresh. If you are not already an excluded member on a CalFresh case:

Apply today to see if you are eligible!

Existing CalFresh Households

Does your CalFresh Household contain a person who receives Supplemental Security Income (SSI/SSP) from Social Security?

You do not need to make any report to us.

At your household’s next Renewal or Semi-Annual Report (SAR 7), we will automatically add the SSI/SSP person including their income and deductions to the CalFresh Household.

If you experience a decrease or discontinuance, you will receive a substitute food benefit from one of two new state funded programs: the Supplemental Nutritional Benefit (SNB) or the Transitional Nutrition Benefit (TNB). These benefits are based on a chart provided by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS). These alternate CalFresh benefits will be loaded onto your EBT card and will be usable exactly like CalFresh benefits.
