The San Joaquin County (SJC) Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP) is a participant-centered program designed to provide and promote useful work experience opportunities for economically-disadvantaged persons aged 55 or older, and to facilitate the transition of job-ready participants into unsubsidized employment in public and private sector business and industry.

The program has three major goals:

1.      To provide gainful employment through subsidized work-based training to low-income older adults;

2.      To demonstrate how older workers can facilitate the delivery of aging and community services by placing them in human services positions and;

3.      To transition low-income older workers into high quality jobs in the public, private, and non-profit sectors through training and job-finding assistance.

SCSEP is not employment. It is work-based Community Service training to provide participants with the skills they need to secure unsubsidized employment. The length of enrollment in SCSEP is limited to a lifetime maximum of 48 months or four years.  Federal Regulations limits the duration SCSEP participation.  Enrollment is temporary.
